A Rulebook On Auditions

  1. Do not lie on your resume. The industry is smaller than you think.
  2. Be confident. Self-consciousness is crippling and inhibits your performance.
  3. Know yourself. Your headshots are important and they should accurately reflect your personality and energy. Do not try to be someone else.
  4. Be bold and take risks. It will make your performance memorable.
  5. Prepare, prepare, prepare. Many actors underestimate the amount of thought they need to give to a role and end up making wrong choices.
  6. Get an idea of what the project is about. It conveys your interest about the production.
  7. Look at the script; know the meaning and purpose of the words. Your understanding of the text forms the basis for your performance.
  8. Look the part. It convinces the auditioners that you are suitable for the role.
  9. Listen to the feedback and directions offered by the casting director and make the necessary adjustments to your performance.
  10. Be polite and respectful at all times. Nobody wants to work with a jerk.
