I have not done any voice work in the past. Is this workshop suitable for me?
Of course. This workshop is designed for absolute beginners as well as experienced performers and public speakers who want to sharpen their vocal skills. You will be introduced to simple but effective vocal exercises that you can use to practice each day.
I am a very shy person and struggle with speaking in public spaces. Can this workshop help me overcome my fear of speaking in public?
I like to think that nothing is impossible if you have the right mindset and are determined to improve. In this workshop, you will be guided and supported not just by me, but by your peers as well. You will learn ways to overcome certain habits that have been preventing you from unleashing your true potential. The more trust you have in yourself, the more you will progress.
Can you provide more details on the content of the workshop?
This workshop centres around the connection between body, breath and voice. You will learn simple stretches to make the body more limber. You will also learn how the breath can help to power the voice and drive communication between you and your listener. You will be speaking from the very start, so please bring a bottle of water so that you can take small sips in between activities.
Will I need to prepare anything (e.g. a speech or monologue) before the workshop?
No, you are not required to prepare anything. Just come ready to work and have fun! A mini booklet containing exercises and speeches will be sent out to you before the workshop day. I suggest you read through the speeches and select one or two that resonates with you because we will be using them in class. You won’t be required to memorize them.
