About The Workshop
In this 3 hour workshop, you’ll experience different aspects of acting to discover what best suits your goals and interests.
You’ll be introduced to the basics of Method Acting and Improvisational Theatre through games and exercises that’ll stretch your imagination and awaken your creativity.
This workshop will help you build confidence in the way you communicate and trust your instincts.
Through acting, you’ll learn to find your talent, whatever it may be. Most importantly, you can be assured of the “fun” in the Fundamentals.
I have no experience in acting and I’m really shy, is this workshop for me?
Yes! This workshop is designed to be a whole lot of fun for beginners. We’ll be encouraging, but we’ll never push you further than what you’re comfortable with.
What are the classes going to be like?
The class moves fast – we’ll start with a quick introduction, some warm up activities and we’ll dive straight into our interactive games and exercises.
What will I gain from this workshop?
At the end of the workshop, you’ll have experienced the basics of acting and have discovered a little of how acting can affect and improve your personal and professional life.
Through the games and activities, you’ll also gain a boost in confidence and communication skills.
Will it be awkward if I come alone?
Absolutely not! In fact, HCAC is a great place to meet like-minded friends.
Do I have to bring anything to the classes?
As our activities and games involve movement, we’d advise wearing something comfortable.
If you’re attending the workshop after work, office wear is fine! (Note: Skirts/dresses might impede some movements)
Jolene Wong is an actress and storyteller. She graduated with a first class honours degree in Acting from LASALLE College of the Arts, where she received training in the following methods of actor training: Stanislavski’s System, Suzuki Method of Actor Training, Meyerhold’s Biomechanics for Theatre, Grotowski-based Physical Acting, Clown, and Mask Work. Her physical training includes the asian forms of Kalaripayattu and Tai Chi, while her vocal training includes Fitzmaurice Voicework and Estill Voice Training. Her thesis explored the psychological impact of working in theatre on actors in Singapore, and she continues to seek insight into the working culture and experience of the Singapore theatre and film industry.
Jolene made her professional acting debut in Toy Factory’s Here and Beyond (directed by Stanley Seah), and other acting credits include roles in Alfian Saat’s The Insiders (directed by Jo Kukathas), Carol Churchill’s Skriker (directed by Natalie Hennedige), and Brecht’s The Good Person of Szechwan (directed by Noor Effendy Ibrahim). She has also acted in numerous short films and commercials.
As a performer, Jolene prizes versatility and intelligent choices. As a teacher, her philosophy is to guide students to the best versions of themselves. While she is currently training to teach under Kamil Haque at HCAC, Jolene intends to further her studies in voicework to become a certified vocal coach.
