If you have tried your hand at acting, playwriting, storytelling, poetry, personal essays or perhaps your a casual and curious weekend scribbler this workshop is for you.
In this highly interactive 3-hr workshop, you will learn what is means to create an active and engaging monologue. The process will have you hone your ideas in a way that you can express them in a performance. You’ll experience the three types of monologues most commonly heard onstage and understand the three key components of a monologue that draw people into a character’s world.
The word “Monologue” which roughly translates to speaking alone actually comes from a combination of Greek terms, monos meaning single/alone and logos meaning speech/word. So, think of a monologue as an uninterrupted speech by a character that expresses a secret, a confession, an unburdening of a problem. Beyond sounding like rant, a well-structured monologue reveals the inner life of a character that he/she previously did not express.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a draft of a monologue you can use for yourself, for auditions or better yet, in the upcoming 3rd edition of The Singapore Monologue Slam.
Minimum age for admission is 13 years old. Prior training or experience is not required.
